Driving the Camas Road from Apgar in Glacier National Park
Yesterday, we drove the Camas Road that runs between Apgar village in Glacier National Park, and the North Fork Road that leads you to Polebridge.
It was a perfect sunny day for May, approximately 70°F. This is a beautiful time of year, because the lilacs are in full bloom, everything is green, but the snow is still on the top of the peaks. The weather is pleasant, not so hot that you are uncomfortable. My baby loves this weather!
The Camas Road seems to be a lesser known road; that you would only find if you drove up to Polebridge, Montana.
It is a drive I would highly recommend.
There is less traffic, and you have beautiful views of Lake McDonald as you drive out of Apgar. Then you will have beautiful views of all of many of the peaks of Glacier National Park as you drive. There are a few spots to pull out and take pictures. There are also a few hiking trails off of this road, such as the Huckleberry Lookout.
You can reach this road by continuing past the (main) turn into Apgar village in Glacier National Park. If you don’t take a right into Apgar, you will keep heading straight, and you will be on the right track!! This road eventually will cross the Flathead River, and you can then take a right to head up to Polebridge, Bowman Lake, and Kintla Lake.
To read more about how to reach the Camas Road from Columbia Falls by driving the North Fork Road in the North Fork, read my blog about that here.
