Glacier Guides and Montana Raft Company, Rafting in West Glacier, Montana, Montana Vacation Blog

Glacier Guides and Montana Raft Company is a raft and guide company open May through September, located near West Glacier, Montana.

Glacier Guides was founded in 1983 to provide ecologically sensitive backcountry guiding and interpretation in Glacier National Park.  It was started by three friends, and four years later expanded to include rafting and fishing on the area’s two Wild and Scenic rivers. In 2010, Glacier Guides Lodge was built to give guests a more eco-friendly lodging option in West Glacier.  Today, with more than ninety guides and support people on staff, Glacier Guides and Montana Raft Company provides the area’s most comprehensive and professional hiking, backpacking, fishing, lodging and rafting service.

Choose your Adventure:

·         Rafting:  Experience the park from the water by taking a half, full or multi-day whitewater trip on the Middle Fork of the Flathead (also multi-day North Fork floats).

·         Day hiking:  Hike and learn by joining a group day hike in Glacier National Park.  Guides focus on interpretation and preservation.  A variety of locations and levels are offered.

– Monday to Avalanche Lake

                        – Tuesday to the Highline Trail

– Wednesday to Virginia Falls

– Friday to Iceberg Lake

– Saturday to Scenic Point

·         Backpacking and Chalet Trips: Have an out of car experience and explore Glacier’s backcountry with 3, 4, or 6-day trips that are available on a weekly basis throughout the summer.  Or experience Glacier’s history with a 3 or 6-day hiking trip into Glacier’s backcountry chalets (Granite Park and Sperry).

·         Fishing: Find the fish from the comfort of a dory with half or full day fishing trips. No fishing experience?  No problem, sign up for our half-day fly-fishing school.

·         Custom Trips:  Great for families or groups that want something special.  Combine rafting, hiking, fishing and lodging to custom fit your vacation.

·         Lodging:  Glacier Guides Lodge is a comfortable 12-room lodge tucked in a small, forested canyon.  Each room has 2 queen sized beds, small refrigerator, private bath and outdoor seating area.  A healthy and hearty continental breakfast is included.

·         Equipment Rentals: Rafting and backpacking equipment available for guests or visitors.

So, why choose Glacier Guides and Montana Raft?

·        Glacier Guides and Montana Raft Company, West Glacier, Montana, Montana Vacation BlogGuide Experience, Safety, Knowledge and Service:  At Glacier Guides, Inc. and Montana Raft Co., success comes from the amazing staff.  Over 90 percent of the company’s 90 member staff returns every season. All guides are certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR, NPS Bear Management Training.  All rafting guides have an additional Swiftwater Rescue certification.  Over 30 years in business.

·         Unequalled Interpretation and Preservation Focus: Chosen to be the exclusive hiking-guide service of Glacier National Park. Leave No Trace is taught and practiced on all trips. Protecting the scenic entrance to Glacier National Park is important so there are no billboards used, anywhere. A forested buffer is kept on the 5-acre property along the highway so that the focal point is the beauty of Glacier Park, not the businesses.

·        Environmentally Responsible: Awarded the Montana “Eco-Star Award” for their pollution prevention efforts for the past 2 years, named a “Green Business” by Glacier National Park and will be the first rafting company in Montana to graduate from the Uncommon Sense program through the Yellowstone Business Partnership.  Glacier Guides Lodge was built by many LEED standards.

·        Guest Service and Care: Behind safety, guest satisfaction is the biggest priority.  The guest’s experience is thought of every step of the way.  Montana Raft is the only raft company in West Glacier that puts 8 guests or less per boat.  Others pack in up to 14 people. What that means for the guest is that everybody gets a window seat.  There is also no extra charge for wetsuits or wet-shoes.

·        Great Facilities. Situated on a forested 5 acres with changing rooms, restrooms, showers, a volleyball court, horseshoes, free Wi-Fi, shaded parking, and picnic facilities.

·        Equipment Quality. Top quality equipment is used for all trips and rentals.  Hyside boats, NRS equipment, Sierra Designs, Osprey, MSR, Katadyn and Therma-Rest are the main companies used.

·        Food for Thought:  You are what you eat. Glacier Guides cares about guests by providing homemade meals with as many local and organic ingredients as possible, both on trips and foods to go.  All dietary considerations are supported (with proper notice).

·        Giving back.  Donating to community and environmental causes is a big focus.  Every year the company hosts a “Rafting for Refuse” event to help maintain the cleanliness of the Middle Fork River and it’s access points.
