Glacier Raft Company: Your Rafting Guides in West Glacier, Montana

Glacier Raft Company rafting in Glacier National Park, Montana

In 1976, Onno Wieringa and Darwon Stoneman had a wild idea:  take their two rafts and one van and start a whitewater rafting company. People thought they were all wet – but the business grew rapidly. Today, Darwon and Terri Stoneman along with their daughter and son-in-law Cassie and Jeff Baldelli provide rafting and fishing on some of Montana’s most acclaimed rivers, plus access to the legendary Glacier National Park and Great Bear Wilderness. The Glacier Raft Company is the longest running river outfitter in Montana and the only one in the village of West Glacier. Thousands of visitors have enjoyed our whitewater, fly fishing, and horseback riding trips, our restful log cabins, and our 100% natural Montana hospitality.

Glacier Raft Company runs a variety of fun-filled Glacier National Park rafting trips on the rivers bordering the Park. May through September, rain or shine, take on the Middle Fork’s family-friendly class II-III whitewater or appreciate the stunning river canyon on a peaceful, leisurely float without the whitewater. Half day and full day river trips depart from our rafting office conveniently located in the Village of West Glacier just outside the West Entrance to Glacier National Park. Add more excitement to your trip in a smaller sport raft or inflatable kayak or wrap up your whitewater adventure with a great dinner cooked by your guide on the river’s bank.

Consider a multi-day river trip as an alternative to a motel, plus breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included! Spend a night or two on the river, rafting, fishing and enjoying the river during the day, and gathering around the fire and camping under the Big Sky at night.

Our trademark whitewater trip accesses the upper stretches of the Middle Fork of the Flathead in Montana’s remote Great Bear Wilderness. Refresh yourself with this unparalleled backcountry experience. Fly, hike, or ride in on horseback to access this pristine landscape, then spend four days on the Wild and Scenic Upper Middle Fork which boasts class II-IV whitewater and matchless trout fishing.

If you are interested in fishing, Montana is legendary for its fly fishing and the waters around Glacier National Park are no exception. We offer daily and multi-day guided trips on the beautiful North and Middle Forks of the Flathead River, and multi-day trips into the Great Bear Wilderness to fish the acclaimed Upper Middle Fork. This is prime habitat for eager native Westslope Cutthroat trout and Rainbow trout that you catch and release. Bring your own gear or let us supply everything you need. A Montana fishing license is required for all fishing trips with the exception of private pond fishing.  If you’re a beginner, we provide instruction on private ponds where no fishing license is required. One lesson and you may be hooked on fly fishing for life (if you’re lucky).
