Things to do in Many Glacier, Glacier National Park, Montana
Glacier National Park has so many amazing things to offer! Each area offers unique things, and Many Glacier is no exception. Here is a list of some ideas for planning your trip to the Many Glacier Valley!
1. Go for a hike.
If you came to Glacier National Park to hike, Many Glacier is your place! There are the longer trips to Grinnell Glacier, Cracker Lake, Iceberg Lake, Ptarmigan Tunnel, and Swiftcurrent Pass. Or several family friendly hikes like Swiftcurrent Nature Trail, Grinnell Lake, Red Rock Falls, Bullhead Lake, or Apikuni Falls.
2. Horseback riding.
Swan Mountain Outfitters offers horseback riding leaving from behind the Many Glacier Hotel. I would recommend a day trip to Cracker Lake. Insider’s tip: they will allow children who are not allowed on the trails to do “pony rides” for no charge — my child loves horses so we always try to do this. Please be sure to tip!! Watch a cute video of my girl riding her horse in 2015.
3. Boat rentals and boat tours.
Glacier Park Boat Company offers spectacular tours on Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine. Or they have canoes, kayaks, and rowboats available to rent. We recently rented a rowboat, and had a blast crossing the lake to access the beautiful shores on the other side. Keep in mind that children under 12 have to wear a lifejacket the entire time. (My baby did not really care for hers.)
If you came to Glacier National Park to camp, camping at Many Glacier should be at the top of your list.
5. Catch a program.
There are many programs available in the Many Glacier Valley, from hotel tours at the Many Glacier Hotel to evening programs at the Many Glacier Hotel or the Many Glacier Campground. Check the ranger-led activity schedule for the month and year you are visiting for exact times and dates.
6. Have a cocktail at the Many Glacier Lodge.
Enjoy a cocktail at the Many Glacier Lodge on their gorgeous decks. Or stay a night with a room overlooking Swiftcurrent Lake.
7. Watch for bears
Many Glacier could also be called “Many Bear” for how many bears there are frequenting this area. You are pretty much likely to see them anywhere around Many Glacier.
8. Extra tips
Head to Fishercap Lake at dusk to see moose, or sit up on the hill behind the Many Glacier Hotel to watch the sun set. The sun will show the holes in cliffs to your right above Iceberg Lake in the distance as it goes behind the mountains.
You can’t go wrong whatever you end up doing while visiting the Many Glacier Valley in Glacier National Park!!
