Glacier National Park offers boat tours at several locations with the Glacier Park Boat Company.  The boat tour at Two Medicine takes you across Two Medicine Lake on the Sinopah boat, with stunning views of Sinopah Mountain and the incredible Two Medicine Valley.

I love the boat tours in Glacier for several reasons.  One, they offer a view of the mountains that you may not get without taking the boat.  Two, they provide you with interesting information about each respective area.  Ask a lot of questions!  Three, they help cut time off of a lot of hikes by allowing you to begin your hike after unloading the boat, instead of the head of the lake.  Four, they are a fun activity for the whole family!

My two year old loved the “boat!” Boat! Boat!

Boats depart at several times throughout the day.  If you plan on hiking on your own, I would recommend taking the earliest boat (in 2014 it was 9 am) so that you can hike while it is cool earlier in the day.  If you want to take a guided hiking tour to Twin Falls, you will have to take the 1 pm or 3 pm boats.

If you do depart the boat and hike, be sure to obtain a purple ticket from the captain as you leave the boat.  That purple ticket is your ticket back onto the boat after your hike.  Keep in mind that the later boat pickups (like the 3:15 pm pickup) tend to be crowded with sometimes hundreds of people returning from hikes and looking to take the boat back to cut time off of their hike.  The boat company will kindly take multiple trips across the lake in order to pick up additional passengers, but those with purple tickets get to board the first boat.  If you hiked around the lake but want to catch the boat back, you can do so and just pay at the ticket counter when you get back across the lake.

Children under 4 are free for the boat, adults at Two Medicine are $12.25 each.  Keep in mind that each location may have varying prices, so don’t count on that price at all of their locations.

I hope you enjoy your boat tour across Two Medicine Lake in the stunning Two Medicine Valley in Glacier National Park in Montana!
