Where to Eat Dinner in Whitefish, Montana

Downtown Whitefish Montana in the winter, Montana Vacation Blog

Whitefish, Montana, has a large selection of restaurants to choose from for the small size of the town.  I have many favorites.  I recommend any of the following, depending on what kind of food you are in the mood for.  (Note that only some restaurants have patios, and they are only open during the summer months.)  The following are listed in no particular order:

1.  Tupelo Grille

Located in downtown Whitefish on Central Avenue, the Tupelo Grille is known for its Cajun flair.  The Tupelo is fine dining, but its casual atmosphere allows you to be comfortable in any attire.  The Southern food, seafood, and steaks paired with fantastic wine is sure to be a treat.  Be sure to try the Original Low Country Shrimp & Grits.  {Open for dinner only.}  Click here for their menu.

2.  The Boat Club at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake

You can’t beat the view from the Lodge at Whitefish Lake.  The bar and restaurant are located overlooking the water, with a patio area for each that is open during the summer.  Start with a cocktail at their Tiki Bar located next to the pool (only open during the summer months), followed by dinner in the restaurant.  They also offer complimentary valet service.  They also have live music some evenings.  This is a favorite of mine year-round.  Great service, a full bar, good food — this is the perfect place to enjoy dinner in this idyllic setting.  Click here for their dining menu.  Note that they have separate menus for the bar and dining areas.

3.  Whitefish Lake Restaurant at Whitefish Lake Golf Club

The Whitefish Lake Restaurant is found at the golf course heading west of Whitefish.  This restaurant is popular thanks to its great food reputation.  Their consistency makes this place a hometown staple.  You can sit at the bar, or take a seat in their beautiful dining room.  In the summer months, you can enjoy the patio overlooking the North Course.  Their Mud Pie dessert is huge, and is good enough to drool over.

4.  Logan’s Bar and Grill at the Grouse Mountain Lodge

Located not far from the Whitefish Lake Restaurant, the lobby of the Grouse Mountain Lodge overlooks the South Course of the Whitefish Lake Golf Course.  During the summer months, you can enjoy a meal on their patio.  I think that Logan’s Grill is all too often overlooked as a great place to eat.  We also love having lunch there throughout the year.  Enjoy a cocktail in Logan’s Bar, and then eat steak, fish, or chicken next to the stunning river rock fireplace that makes this the perfect setting.  You can book their wine room for private parties and events (seating up to 30).  You can view their dinner menu here.

5.  Ciao Mambo’s (Mambo’s)

Mambo’s is a favorite for Italian food in Whitefish.  Choose from a large selection of pizza and pasta — it all tastes good.  You will surely leave Mambo’s with a full stomach.  A great feature is that the table cloths are disposable, keeping kids entertained by drawing during dinner.  During the summer, you can expect there to be a wait during prime dinner hours, and they don’t take reservations for smaller parties.  The one downfall is that since the restaurant is made from an old Whitefish home, the tables are close together, so expect to be cozy with your neighbors.  The upstairs offers more privacy with a small patio if you are able to get a table.  See their menu.

6.  Cafe Kandahar

At Cafe Kandahar, you can expect a variety of entrees, specially catered to the season using local ingredients.  The Cafe Kandahar is located on Whitefish Mountain Resort, and is known for its fine dining.  Try the Chef’s Tasting Menu — offering a five-course meal paired with wine.  The Cafe Kandahar is perfect for those looking for the ultimate dining experience.  View their menu here, but keep in mind it is always new and changing.

7.  Stillwater Fish House

The Stillwater Fish House is a new restaurant taking Whitefish by storm.  It is easy to miss, because it is located just outside of Whitefish on Highway 93 West.  Hop in your car and be sure to enjoy at least one meal here.  This is your place for seafood and oysters — sit at the oyster bar and enjoy their unique oyster shooters.  Their food wins local awards, and for a good reason.  I recommend starting with a cup of the Seafood Bisque, followed with the Hawaiin Hamachi Crudo appetizer, and then the Miso Butterfish and the Thai Seafood Curry.  My mouth is watering writing this.  The service is also outstanding – the owner will go out of his way to be sure you have a great experience.  See their menu here.

8.  Wasabi Sushi Bar & Ginger Grill

Wasabi Sushi Bar is always crowded, and for good reason.  It is the only place to get sushi consistently in Whitefish, and it is delicious.  You may question eating sushi so far from an ocean, but expect to be pleasantly surprised.  They also have a selection of items available for those not in the mood for sushi, and can pair your food with wine and beer.  I have so many favorite rolls, I don’t even know where to begin recommending.  Be sure to call ahead for a reservation, this restaurant is booked throughout the year.  Click here for their menu.

9.  Pescado Blanco

Located on 1st Street in Whitefish, Pescado Blanco is the place to enjoy Mexican food.  They have a huge menu selection, offering burritos, enchiladas, ensaladas, tacos, and amazing Mexican chocolate cake.  See their dinner menu.

10.  Craggy Range Bar and Grill

The Craggy Range is the perfect place for casual dining.  They offer a bar area where you can enjoy the dinner menu, live music and events throughout the year, and a patio during the summer months.  Kids are welcome, the staff is extremely friendly, and you will return again for their Southwestern flair.  I love the Black & Bleu Bites, the Southern Slope salad, and all of their burgers.  They also have a delicious entree selection.  See their menu.

11.  Latitude 48

Latitude 48 Bistro prides itself as serving “Mediterranean Style Bistro,” offering a variety of choices to enjoy dinner.   Located in downtown on Central Avenue, they have a selection of “small plates,” pizza, and hearty entrees.  Stop in the Red Room bar for cocktails downstairs after dinner.  See their menu.

Warm Wishes from Big Sky Country,
