Whitefish City Beach, Whitefish, Montana
Whitefish City Beach is a sand beach not far from downtown Whitefish, Montana.
This is the perfect spot to go if you want to jump in the lake, get some sun, and relax — especially if you have kids, as there are lifeguards on duty during the summer.
What I also appreciate is that there are picnic tables, snacks available for purchase (during the summer only), and there is a large grass area shaded by trees not far up from the beach.
There is also a large dock, a roped swimming area with a floating dock, and a boat launch available.
The one downfall is that the beach gets crowded. It is an easy bike ride from town, which is why I think that it gets so packed with people during the summer.
But if you choose to visit at night or in the morning, it is a peaceful, deserted place.
It is one of my favorite places to park the car and sit and watch the sunset. Sunsets here are spectacular. Shades of pink light up the skies, reflecting off of the few clouds during the summer over Whitefish Lake. There is also a full view of Whitefish Mountain Resort from Whitefish City Beach.
City Beach is accessible by crossing over the viaduct heading toward Whitefish Mountain Resort on Baker Avenue, and taking a left at the first stop light onto Edgewood Place, once over the viaduct. Follow Edgewood Place down, around to your right, and you will see a sign pointing you to the left to turn into City Beach. It is a one-way road, so you will want to catch that left. Or you can continue straight, and park along the road if there are spots open by the shady trees.
If you are in Whitefish, Montana, and looking for a quick place to stop and see the lake, Whitefish City Beach is the place for you. If you are looking for another place to enjoy Whitefish Lake, be sure to read about Les Mason State Park just around the bend.
