Whitefish, Montana. A small town that was unknown when I was growing up in the area. A town that has now exploded in popularity: thanks to shows like the Bachelor, and publications like National Geographic, Whitefish is now on the map.
This tiny ski town has so much to offer its residents and visitors alike. Whitefish Mountain Resort (formerly “Big Mountain”) towers over the town, boasting world-class skiing in the winter, and gondola rides and ziplining in the summer months. The top of Whitefish Mountain Resort offers a view into Glacier National Park, only 30 minutes from Whitefish.
The Amtrak train can be heard making its way into the downtown Whitefish train stop to bring new visitors. Glacier Park International Airport offers direct flights from nearby cities, including Seattle, Denver, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, and Las Vegas.
Nearby ranches and lodging can offer you the serenity you have been in search of. Venture into Whitefish for dinner and cocktails. The downtown area offers many restaurant choices, as well as cute stores, including clothing, souvenirs, and huckleberry treats.
Just over the viaduct you will find Whitefish Lake, a beautiful lake where you can rent a boat or jet ski and head out onto the clear water for the day.
This small town offers yearly events to entertain: the Whitefish Winter Carnival, Whitefish Winter Stroll, Fourth of July fireworks and parade, downtown Halloween celebrations…. the list goes on.
If you are planning a trip to Montana, be sure to include Whitefish on your list of places to visit. You will not run out of things to do, and you will be so happy you made this a stop on your list! Friendly people and beautiful scenery is in your future.
Warm Wishes from Big Sky Country,
Alex M. Neill
